Whine, Whine, Whine....

Ugh........ Just letting you know I am still alive. Not having loads of fun right now, trying to find a place to live and a vehicle so I don't have to keep walking EVERYwhere. It is fairly chilly (especially for a wimpy "Florida" girl) and it keeps RAINING. And then RAINING some more! Businesses are all done at 4:30 or 5, so I can't get anything accomplished after work. I'm tired and cold - and fairly cranky. Right now work is the least of my concerns - it sounds quite easy so far - but of course I could be sadly mistaken.... After all, I am still only in my second week and don't have to do a whole lot. On top of it all, my internet monthly allocation for "downloading" was up on the 7th day I had it (yeah!), so I am probably going to pay an arm and a leg until I find out if I can upgrade my plan at all.. (DOn't ask me how internet works in NZ - I couldn't tell ya!)

Oh well. It was to be expected. I knew I'd have challenges and the bottom line is, Bruce and I chose to do this. It will get easier. I will forget how much I struggled with some things. I will eventually eat a home-cooked meal again. And, on Friday (homeless or not!), a new friend I've made is taking me on their monthly family "bar crawl" with them!! It promises to be an evening of laughter, some good beer, and lots of Karaoke (only definitely NOT by me!) I could use some fun. Especially since it'll be my birthday and I won't have anyone here with me to celebrate it. *looking very pathetic and fishing for sympathy here*

I miss you all. A LOT! Be patient with me. Eventually I'll feel more settled and maybe I'll even find my smile somewhere.

Sorry things are a bit tough. We had enough trouble looking for housing and a car without holding a full time job at the same time. Too much all at once for you!! Hope it will settle down soon. So much nicer to have your own place with a kitchen.

Happy birthday early! You can celebrate it here on Friday and then get emails from Americans the following day for a second Friday.

So much rain this week I agree. Early spring showers...

Most house hunting is done at the weekend here - unless you have the luxury of a non-working wife to scout around for you. (What every working woman needs is a wife).
I'm surprised that places close at 4.30 or 5 but then Rotorua isn't the big city. I'm sure that car yards would be open at the weekend though.
Internet - it sounds as if you have broadband. A large number of New Zealanders don't yet. It's rather expensive here. One of the less attractive features of New Zealand. If you have dial up then you can get flat rate plans for a set monthly fee, but of course it's so slow you won't download much. You should be able to get a broadband plan at a reasonable cost that will let you do all the keeping in touch with your family, posting to your blog etc - just don't think that you are going to be able to download lots of movies, music etc, cheaper than you can go out and buy them on CDs or DVDs. The plan we have at work doesn't charge extra if we go over the limit - it just cuts our speed to dial up speed. We pay around $50 a month for 5GB.

Those are the two main nationwide providers, although there are other smaller ones

Hope you have a great birthday!

Happy birthday, dear Tia!
Keep trying and you knew it wont be easy. It wont be very hard though I'm sure with all the real and virtual friends.
I have much less time for blogging, but from time to time I'm thinking of you and sending some good thoughts to you!

A good pity party every once in a while is good for the soul!!! You're ungrounded at the moment and that can be very difficult. Now would be a good time to pick up a piece of paper - draw a circle - and see what develops on the inside...someone I admire introduced me to that great way of becoming grounded again :) Hugs and prayers to you....

Have a pint for me and I dare you to do Karaoke, at least once. (Perhaps sing in Finnish?)

I hope you have a splendid birthday. I'm sending hugs.

I don't want to say I told you so, 'cause you so totally don't deserve it, but I was serious when I said that NZ is the coldest I've ever been in my life. I wore every single stich of clothing I brought with me, I huddled shivering under an electric blanket, I whined, I complained, I bitched, and whined somemore - and I'm CANADIAN and I was COLD. It's so damp, it doesn't matter how many sweaters you put on, you are still cold in NZ (by the way, I was there in Oct.). You'll be hot by December.
I have been to Rotorua my mother tells me. I vaguely remember the gyzers.
I feel for you having to spend your b-day without Bruce. I'm so emotional right now, the news almost made me cry. Ack! I hope your new friends give you hugs and birthday bumps (one for every year).
Hugs
xo

Hello, Tia! Haven't been around on blogger much lately so trying to catch up... I see you are settling, or rather, bravely working on, settling in NZ... what an adventure! Can't imagine how hard it would be being away from my hubby for that long... when will Bruce join you? Whenever the house sells? Happy early b-day!
